Red-dusted elephants beneath a palm in Tsavo under a stormy sky

South-east Kenya

Tsavo

Vast red-earth wilderness of lava flows, springs and famously red elephants.

Tsavo East and Tsavo West together form one of Kenya's largest protected areas. The scale makes it feel genuinely remote.

Tsavo West features volcanic landscapes and Mzima Springs, while Tsavo East is flatter and more open. Both combine well with the coast.

When to go

Dry seasons, roughly June to October and January to February, are often preferred.
